Standalone SLS Camera

Product Description

This standalone SLS camera is designed to work with an existing Windows tablet or laptop, providing an easy way to add SLS functionality to an already-owned device.

The camera is based on the Xbox Kinect V1, which has been modified to make it more suitable for standalone use. The original long, permanently attached cable along with its proprietary connector have been removed, and replaced with standard connections for easier set-up and portability.

Each camera comes with a USB flash drive containing the software required for use, so you can connect the camera to a compatible Windows computer and get started.

Upgraded Camera Design:

The latest version of the camera has been upgraded with:

• Detachable USB Type-C data connection
• 5.5mm DC barrel jack power input
• Universal 5-12V DC power input (5W power requirement)
• 1/4″ mounting thread on the base of the unit for attaching to a tripod or other mounting equipment

The universal power input provides several options for powering the camera. The included USB-A to 5.5mm DC barrel cable allows it to be powered from a standard USB power bank¹, while the 5-12V input also allows it to be used with suitable 12V supplies and AA battery packs.

A detachable data cable also makes the camera easier to transport and allows the cable to be replaced or changed without modifying the camera.

The camera includes your choice of either a USB-C to USB-A or USB-C to USB-C data cable.

Used Kinect V1 Cameras:

As the original Kinect V1 cameras are no longer being manufactured, they are sourced as used hardware. Individual cameras may have scratches, scuffs or other cosmetic marks from previous use.
Every camera is fully tested and confirmed to be working before being supplied.

¹Power Requirements:

• The camera requires a power source capable of supplying at least a sustained 5 Watts of power to the dedicated power input port.
• At 5V, the supply must be able to provide a sustained 1A, and a peak of 1.5A.
• At 12V, the supply must be able to provide a sustained 450mA, and a peak of 600mA.
• We recommend that any USB power bank or USB power supply you intend to use can provide at least 1.5A @ 5V.
• Laptops containing two or more USB ports: We have had success connecting both the data and power connections to a single laptop

²Powering Directly from a Laptop (Without an Extra Power Source):

It is sometimes possible to power the camera directly from a laptop by connecting both USB connections to the laptop, provided it has two available USB ports. We have tested this successfully with several laptops.

For the best results, connect the power cable to a USB 3 / SuperSpeed port, if available, as they are generally capable of supplying more current than USB 2 ports. USB 3 / SuperSpeed ports are often identified by a blue USB port and/or a “SS” symbol. The data connection can be connected to a standard USB 2 port however.

Some laptops also have a dedicated high-power USB charging port, which is often identified by a yellow USB port and/or a battery symbol next to it. This type of port can be useful for powering the camera. However, be aware that in some instances these ports can remain powered even when the laptop is switched off, meaning the camera will continue to draw power and drain the laptop’s battery.

Not all laptops provide enough power through their USB ports to operate the camera reliably. For the most reliable operation, we recommend using a separate USB power bank or suitable external power source to power the camera.

Laptop or Tablet Requirements:

• A device running at least the full version/Home edition of Windows 8, recommended at least Windows 10.
• Windows 11 not tested, but should work.
• Windows S-Mode not supported, however S-Mode can be freely converted to Windows Home edition, which is supported.
• Windows IoT/RT not supported.
• Windows Phone not supported.
• Windows on ARM/Snapdragon not supported.
• Android (Samsung Android tablets, etc.) not supported.
• IOS/MACOS (iPad/Macbook) not supported.
• At least 2GB of memory (RAM) is required at the minimum. For best performance, we recommend at least 4GB. Additional memory is recommended if you wish to run other software alongside the SLS software.
• To install the included software, at least 4GB of free storage is required.
